Our Story
Smith Barkett Law Group, PLLC formally came into existence in 2020 after the merger of Muskogee’s Rusty Smith Law Group, PLLC and Tulsa’s The Barkett Law Firm. Mike Barkett and Rusty Smith have long-standing, established roots in the Oklahoma legal community but also particularly in Northeastern Oklahoma. Mike and Rusty’s practices crossed paths several times over the years, so they decided to move forward with a partnership, combining their 45 years of experience in complex civil trial litigation.
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1994, Mike Barkett began his legal career working for a top defense law firm in Oklahoma City. In 2002, Rusty Smith also graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he began his own career working for a top defense firm in Tulsa. The litigation and trial experience both attorneys gained in these early years not only sharpened their litigation skills for later wars but also allowed both Rusty and Mike to create a unique network of attorneys and contacts throughout Oklahoma.
